Cheesequake State Park Hike – Yellow Trail

The 1,569 acres state park is located in Middlesex County, Central New Jersey. There are five designated trails in the park. The Red, Yellow, Green and Blue trails are for hiking and walking use only. The White Trail is multi-use and is open for hiking and mountain biking.

The Yellow trail is the shortest of the trails at about 1.5 miles. It’s a pleasant hike though forest and swamp land. The trail is rated easy but there is one very long set of stairs by Hooks Creek Lake, about midway though the trail. The park also offers an interesting interpretive center, playing fields, picnic areas, fishing, crabbing, and 53 tent and trailer sites.

All in all, while the trail is short, it offers enough variety to keep even a veteran hiking interested. And if you want to go hiking with kids or want to introduce hiking to kids, the Yellow trail at Cheesequake State Park is the place to be.

Cheesequake State Park is a state park and charges a day use fee from Memorial Day through Labor Day. After Labor Day, there is no fee and that is probably the better time to go hiking in terms of the weather.
