Thompson Park Mountain Bike Ride with the Kids

Thompson Park is a great park to do some hiking or biking with your kids in New Jersey. The park is located in Lincroft and is part of the Monmouth County Park System.

Thompson Park has 4.9 miles of paved trails and 10 miles of multiple-use trails, a playground for kids 12 and under, tennis courts, athletic fields, a group picnic area, and a fishing lake with canoe rentals. You can also bring your own canoe, kayak or electric-powered boat.

The paved path is mostly flat with a few rolling hills. The path is great for walkers – young and old, young kids riding bikes with training wheels, older kids just starting to ride. The multi-use trails are mostly flat grass covered double-track with a few miles of single-track. The trails are off road trails but are definitely not what you would consider mountain biking trails. I think that is why grass still covers most of the multi use trails due to the low mountain biking traffic.

Thompson Park is not a mountain biking destination but it would be a good place for a relaxing ride or a quite hike in a beautiful setting, much like Manasquan Reservoir. My sons told me they prefer Thompson Park to Manasquan Reservoir because Thompson has more trails than Manasquan Reservoir.

Thompson Park is a great park to go biking or hiking with kids in New Jersey.
